Description

Human E-Cad ELISA Kit (Small Sample Volume)

Human E-Cad ELISA kits are used to detect E-Cadherin (E-Cad) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, urine and other biological samples. E-Cad, or E-cadherin, is a calcium-dependent transmembrane cell adhesion protein concentrated at the adherens junctions of epithelial cells, where its extracellular domains bind those of neighbouring cells and its cytoplasmic tail connects to the actin cytoskeleton through catenins. It maintains epithelial tissue integrity and polarity, anchors radial actin fibres and helps cells respond to contractile forces. During early embryogenesis it is needed for compaction of blastomeres and for coordinated cell movements in gastrulation. Loss or downregulation of E-cadherin is a hallmark of epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition and is associated with tumour invasion and metastasis, and mutations in the gene cause hereditary diffuse gastric cancer.
