Description

Human KAL ELISA Kit

Human KAL ELISA kits are used to detect Kallistatin (KAL) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological samples. KAL, kallistatin (SERPINA4), is a serine protease inhibitor of the serpin family, synthesized mainly in the liver and found in plasma, and a specific inhibitor of tissue kallikrein. It inhibits the amidolytic and kininogenase activities of tissue kallikrein by forming an equimolar, heat- and SDS-stable complex with the enzyme, with generation of a small C-terminal fragment of the inhibitor after cleavage at its reactive site. Beyond kallikrein inhibition, kallistatin has been reported to have vasodilatory, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anti-angiogenic effects. Reduced kallistatin levels have been associated with hypertension, cardiovascular and kidney disease, sepsis and liver disease, so it is studied in cardiovascular, inflammatory and metabolic research.
