Description

Human LMWK ELISA Kit

Human LMWK ELISA kits are used to detect Low Molecular Weight Kininogen (LMWK) in plasma and other biological samples. LMWK, low molecular weight kininogen, is a plasma glycoprotein synthesised mainly in the liver and generated by alternative splicing from the same gene as high molecular weight kininogen. It shares the heavy chain and the bradykinin sequence with the high molecular weight form but has a shorter light chain, and it is an inhibitor of cysteine proteases such as cathepsins and papain. Tissue kallikrein cleaves LMWK to release the vasoactive peptide kallidin, which is converted to bradykinin and contributes to vasodilation, increased vascular permeability, pain and inflammation. Altered kininogen levels or processing may be observed in inflammatory conditions, sepsis, hereditary angioedema and cardiovascular disease, so it is studied within the kallikrein-kinin system.
