Description

Human MAT2a ELISA Kit

Human MAT2a ELISA kits are used to detect Methionine Adenosyltransferase II Alpha (MAT2a) in tissue homogenates, cell lysates and other biological samples. MAT2a is the catalytic alpha subunit of methionine adenosyltransferase II, the enzyme that catalyses the formation of S-adenosylmethionine from methionine and ATP in two steps, first forming S-adenosylmethionine and triphosphate and then hydrolysing the triphosphate. S-adenosylmethionine is the principal methyl donor in the cell and is used by methyltransferases to modify DNA, RNA, histones and many other molecules, and it is also a precursor for polyamine synthesis. MAT2a is expressed widely, in contrast with the liver-specific MAT1A, and it is upregulated in proliferating cells. Increased MAT2a expression has been reported in a number of cancers, and the enzyme is studied as a drug target, particularly in tumours lacking MTAP.
