Description

Human TERT / Telomerase Reverse Transcriptase ELISA

The enzyme TERT(telomerase reverse transcriptase) is an RNA component that serves as a template for the telomere repeat, and it has reverse transcriptase activity. Telomerase is a ribonucleoprotein polymerase that adds the telomere repeat TTAGGG to telomere ends. Telomerase expression is involved in cellular senescence because it is usually silenced in postnatal somatic cells, resulting in the shortening of telomeres. Deregulation of telomerase expression in somatic cells may be involved in tumorigenesis. Telomerase, according to research in mice, may also play a role in chromosomal repair since de novo production of telomere repeats might occur at double-stranded breaks. TERT-related diseases include dyskeratosis Ccongenita, autosomal dominant 2 and pulmonary fibrosis, possibly combined with bone marrow failure, telomere-related 1. Telomere C-strand (lagging strand) synthesis and chromosome maintenance are among the pathways influenced by this protein.
