Description

MEK ELISA Kit

MEK ELISA kits are used to detect Methionine-Enkephalin (MEK) in serum, plasma, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. MEK, methionine-enkephalin (Met-enkephalin), is an endogenous opioid pentapeptide with the sequence Tyr-Gly-Gly-Phe-Met, produced from proenkephalin. It is found in the brain, spinal cord, adrenal medulla and the gastrointestinal tract, and it acts mainly at delta and mu opioid receptors to modulate pain perception, stress responses, mood and reward. Met-enkephalin is also called opioid growth factor (OGF) because, acting through the nuclear-associated OGF receptor, it inhibits cell proliferation in tissues such as the skin, cornea and tumors. It is rapidly degraded by peptidases including aminopeptidase N, neprilysin and DPP3, so its half-life is short. Altered levels have been associated with pain disorders, addiction, immune modulation and cancer.
