Description

Rat MAT1a ELISA Kit

Rat MAT1a ELISA kits are used to detect Methionine Adenosyltransferase I Alpha (MAT1a) in tissue homogenates and other biological samples. MAT1a is the catalytic subunit of S-adenosylmethionine synthase isoform type 1, an enzyme expressed predominantly in the adult liver. It catalyses the formation of S-adenosylmethionine (AdoMet) from methionine and ATP in two steps, producing AdoMet and triphosphate and then hydrolysing the triphosphate. AdoMet is the principal methyl donor for the methylation of DNA, RNA, proteins and phospholipids, and it is also a precursor for polyamines and, through the transsulfuration pathway, glutathione. Reduced MAT1a expression and AdoMet depletion have been associated with chronic liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma, and defects in the gene can cause persistent hypermethioninaemia.
