Description

Rat OxLDL ELISA Kit

Rat OxLDL ELISA kits are used to detect Oxidized Low Density Lipoprotein (OxLDL) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. OxLDL, or oxidised low-density lipoprotein, is formed when LDL particles undergo oxidative modification of their lipids and apolipoprotein B, for instance in the artery wall through reactive oxygen species, myeloperoxidase and lipoxygenases. It is taken up by macrophages through scavenger receptors such as CD36, SR-A and LOX-1, which drives the formation of foam cells, the hallmark of early atherosclerotic lesions. OxLDL is pro-inflammatory and cytotoxic to endothelial cells, promotes adhesion molecule expression, smooth muscle proliferation and platelet activation. Elevated circulating OxLDL has been associated with coronary artery disease, acute coronary syndromes, metabolic syndrome and diabetes, and it is studied as a marker of oxidative stress and cardiovascular risk.
