Description

Human SPTBN1 (Spectrin beta chain, non-erythrocytic 1) ELISA

Spectrin beta chain, non-erythrocytic 1 (SPTBN1) is a member of the family of beta-spectrin genes. Spectrin is an actin crosslinking and molecular scaffold protein that joins the plasma membrane to the actin cytoskeleton; determinates the shape of the cell; the arrangement of transmembrane proteins; and is responsible for the organization of organelles. The two distinct antiparallel dimers of alpha- and beta-subunits make up spectrin. The SPTBN1 protein contains an N-terminal actin-binding domain and 17 spectrin repeats, all of which are involved in dimer formation. SPTBN1 is associated with a wide range of developmental problems, speech difficulties, behavioural abnormalities, and neurofibromatosis type Ii. RET signalling and aquaporin-mediated transport are two pathways influenced by the protein.
