Test strips give a result in minutes with no plate reader, which makes them useful for checking a culture or fermentation at the bench, screening many samples before a quantitative assay, or working outside the lab. The colour is compared against the chart supplied to estimate concentration.
They are semi-quantitative: the colour is matched to a range on the reference chart. For precise values use the corresponding plate-based assay kit.
