Pentose Phosphate Assays
Measure the oxidative branch of the pentose phosphate pathway: glucose-6-phosphate, G6PD activity and the NADPH it generates.
The branch point between glycolysis and the pentose phosphate pathway.
The rate-limiting enzyme of the pathway, with an inhibitor screening kit also available.
The reducing power the pathway supplies for biosynthesis and antioxidant defence.
The pentose phosphate pathway runs alongside glycolysis. Its oxidative branch generates NADPH, which cells need to regenerate glutathione and to build lipids and nucleotides, and its non-oxidative branch supplies ribose for nucleic acid synthesis. G6PD activity and the NADP+/NADPH ratio are therefore key read-outs in redox biology and cancer metabolism.
Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase catalyses the first, rate-limiting step of the pathway and produces NADPH.
NADPH maintains reduced glutathione, so it links the pathway directly to antioxidant defence and to resistance to oxidative stress.
Yes. A G6PDH inhibitor screening kit is included in this category.
