Mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (ROS), particularly superoxide, play crucial roles in cellular signaling and metabolism. However, excessive ROS accumulation is associated with oxidative stress, contributing to various pathological conditions including neurodegenerative diseases, cardiovascular disease, and aging. This kit provides a sensitive and specific method to measure mitochondrial ROS levels in living cells, enabling researchers to assess cellular redox status and evaluate the effects of compounds on mitochondrial function and oxidative stress.
The fluorescent probe provided in this kit specifically targets mitochondria in living cells. The probe is oxidized by mitochondrial superoxides to produce bright red fluorescence. The probe excited at 396 nm can specifically detect superoxide of mitochondria. Mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (ROS) can also be detected using an excitation wavelength of 510 nm. The fluorescence intensity is directly proportional to the level of mitochondrial ROS in the sample.
