Liver & Kidney Function Biomarker Assays
Measure the standard biomarkers of liver and kidney function in preclinical samples: transaminases, bilirubin, bile acids, creatinine, albumin and electrolytes.
AST, ALP, gamma-GT, leucine aminopeptidase, 5′-nucleotidase and adenosine deaminase activity.
Total and direct bilirubin, total bile acid, albumin, blood ammonia and total protein.
Creatinine, plus sodium, chloride and iron.
Biomarker assays are key tools for investigating liver and kidney injury. They help estimate the severity of damage, point to its cause and follow progression or recovery in a model.
Raised transaminases indicate hepatocyte injury, while raised ALP, gamma-GT and bile acids point to cholestasis. Bilirubin, albumin and ammonia report on the functional capacity of the liver, and creatinine is the standard marker of glomerular filtration.
Transaminases such as AST are classic markers of hepatocyte damage. ALP, gamma-GT and bile acids indicate cholestatic injury.
Direct bilirubin is the conjugated, water-soluble form processed by the liver. Total bilirubin includes both conjugated and unconjugated forms.
Urea and ammonia kits are listed under urea cycle assays.
