Description

Human ZBTB48 (Zinc finger and BTB domain-containing protein 48) ELISA

ZBTB48 (Zinc finger and BTB domain-containing protein 48) is a protein-coding gene that functions as a transcription regulator that binds to promoter regions. ZBTB48 is a telomere-binding protein that acts as a telomere length regulator. It binds directly to the 5'-TTAGGG-3' tandem repeat at the telomeric end. ZBTB48 binds preferentially to telomeres with a low shelterin complex content and acts as a regulator of telomere length by starting telomere trimming, a process that prevents the formation of excessively long telomeres. ZBTB48 regulates the expression of a small subset of genes, including MTFP1. J and/or S elements are regulated by ZBTB48 in MHC II promoter transcription. ZBTB48 is a negative regulator of cell proliferation by specifically upregulating ARF, a tumour suppressor form of CDKN2A. Neuroblastoma is a disease that is associated with ZBTB48. ZBTB48 has a GO annotation for nucleic acid binding and DNA-binding transcription factor activity. ZNF208 is a paralog of ZBTB48.
