The cluster of differentiation (CD) system is a popular tool for immunophenotyping. CD10 is a zinc-dependent metalloprotease enzyme that has been found to break down a variety of small secreted peptides, including the amyloid beta peptide. It's present in the kidney and lung tissues at a high level as a membrane-bound protein. The CD10 protein has been linked to Alzheimer's disease, with mutations in the gene causing familial Alzheimer's disease. Other chemical processes are also affected by CD10.
