The four human chorionic gonadotropin (CG), luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), and thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) are dimers composed of alpha and beta subunits that are linked noncovalently. The alpha subunits of these hormones are similar, although their beta chains provide biological specificity. The protein produced by this gene is the alpha subunit of the glycoprotein hormones alpha chain family. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
