PRG2 encodes the main component of the eosinophil granule's crystalline core. PRG2 is also found in high amounts in the placenta and pregnancy serum, where it is linked with other proteins including PAPPA, ANGOTENIN (AGT), and C3DG. PRG2 has been associated with anti-parasitic defense responses as a cytotoxin and helminthotoxin, as well as immune hypersensitivity reactions. The protein sequence of PRG2, which has been decoded, contains a peptide that is effective against Gram-positive bacteria, Gram-negative bacteria, and mould. Epithelial cell damage, exfoliation, and bronchospasm have all been linked to PRG2 in allergy. Variant transcripts with variant spliced isoforms for PRG2 have been identified. PRG2 is linked to hypereosinophilic syndrome and dermatographia. The integrin pathway, as well as ERK signalling, are two systems in which PRG2 is involved.
