40S Ribosomal Protein S19 (RPS19) is a ribosomal protein that belongs to the ribosomal protein S19e family. RPS19 is found in the nucleoli, and it has higher-level expression in colon carcinoma tissue than normal colon tissue. RPS19 is necessary for pre-rRNA processing and maturation of 40S ribosomal subunits. RPS19 is required for a slew of biological activities, including endocrine pancreas development, erythrocyte differentiation, mRNA synthesis. RPS19 abnormalities are the reason for Diamond-Blackfan anaemia type 1 (DBA1), a form of Diamond-Blackfan anaemia, a congenital non-regenerative hypoplastic anaemia that generally manifests in early infancy. Diamond-blackfan anaemia causes moderate to severe macrocytic anaemia, erythroblastopenia, and increased cancer risk.
