Background: | TEM5 (G-protein coupled receptor 124) and TEM7 (plexin domain containing 1). TEMs are associated with the cell surface membrane at low levels in normal human and mouse tissues. TEM5 is a seven-pass transmembrane receptor, whereas TEM1, TEM7 and TEM8 span the membrane once. TEM5 expression is elevated during tumor angiogenesis and neoangiogenesis. TEM7 is highly expressed in tumor endothelium and neurons. Therefore, TEM5 and TEM7 may be suitable targets for the development of antiangiogenic therapies. |
Synonyms: | G protein-coupled receptor 124 |
UniProt Protein Function: | GPR124: Endothelial receptor that acts as an essential regulator of CNS angiogenesis. Required for normal endothelial cell sprouting and migration in the forebrain and neural tube. Belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 2 family. LN-TM7 subfamily. 3 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.Protein type: GPCR, family 2; Receptor, GPCR; Membrane protein, multi-pass; Membrane protein, integralChromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 8p11.23Cellular Component: cell surface; integral to membrane; plasma membraneMolecular Function: G-protein coupled receptor activityBiological Process: G-protein coupled receptor protein signaling pathway; regulation of chemotaxis; central nervous system development; endothelial cell migration; sprouting angiogenesis; regulation of angiogenesis |
