Kynureninase is an enzyme that cuts L-kynurenine and L-3-hydroxykynurenine into anthranilic and 3-hydroxyanthranilic acids, respectively, using pyridoxal phosphate as a substrate. Kynureninase is required for the generation of NAD cofactors from tryptophan via the kynurenine pathway. Two metabolic diseases, hydroxykynureninuria and limb defects syndrome 2, are linked to kynureninase.
