Cysteine (Cys) is one of the most widely used molecules in biology, with different functions such as catalysis, structure, regulation and electron transport and it is the donor of sulfides in all cells. Cysteine is the most abundant thiol in plasma and can be used as an extracellular regulatory factor of thiols and disulfide bonds to maintain proper redox state.
