CXCL6
CXCL6 (C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 6, also known as GCP-2, CKA-3 and SCYB6) is a secreted CXC chemokine that attracts neutrophil granulocytes. It signals through the receptors CXCR1 and CXCR2 and also shows strong antibacterial activity. Browse Assay Genie's current range of CXCL6 research reagents below, or read on for the biology behind the target.
CXCL6 is a chemokine that is chemotactic for neutrophil granulocytes. It acts by binding and activating its receptors, CXCR1 and CXCR2. In addition to its chemotactic and angiogenic properties, it has strong antibacterial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. According to UniProt, this activity is 90-fold higher than that of CXCL5 and CXCL7, which makes CXCL6 a useful reference point when comparing the functions of CXC chemokines.
The CXCL6 protein is secreted and belongs to the intercrine alpha (chemokine CxC) family. The CXCL6 gene encodes a member of the CXC chemokine family. It sits in a gene cluster with other CXC chemokine genes in a region of chromosome 4q. Researchers studying neutrophil recruitment, chemokine receptor signalling or innate host defence often measure CXCL6 alongside related ligands such as CXCL5 and CXCL7.
CXCL6 is listed in the HGNC gene group for chemokine ligands. Its older names include granulocyte chemotactic protein 2 (GCP-2), small inducible cytokine subfamily B (Cys-X-Cys) member 6, CKA-3 and SCYB6. The current nomenclature, chemokine (C-X-C motif) ligand 6, reflects its place among the CXC chemokines. Several of these names still appear in the literature, so searches for a CXCL6 antibody or CXCL6 ELISA kit may need to cover more than one alias.
CXCL6 is chemotactic for neutrophil granulocytes, so it is studied in models of neutrophil recruitment and migration.
CXCL6 signals through CXCR1 and CXCR2, which makes it relevant to work on how these receptors are activated.
CXCL6 has strong antibacterial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, linking chemokine biology to host defence.
Alongside its chemotactic role, CXCL6 has angiogenic properties, so it is investigated in studies of new blood vessel formation.
CXCL6 is a secreted chemokine that is chemotactic for neutrophil granulocytes. It signals by binding and activating CXCR1 and CXCR2. It also has angiogenic properties and strong antibacterial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
CXCL6 is also called GCP-2 (granulocyte chemotactic protein 2), CKA-3 and SCYB6. Its previous names include small inducible cytokine subfamily B (Cys-X-Cys), member 6. The HGNC full name is C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 6.
CXCL6 belongs to the intercrine alpha (CXC) chemokine family. Its gene lies in a cluster of CXC chemokine genes on chromosome 4q. Its antibacterial activity is reported to be 90-fold higher than that of CXCL5 and CXCL7. Check the datasheet of any product for its validated reactivity.
