Eotaxin-2
Eotaxin-2 (C-C motif chemokine ligand 24, encoded by CCL24) is a secreted CC chemokine that attracts resting T-lymphocytes and eosinophils. It is also known as MPIF-2, Ckb-6 and SCYA24, and it signals through the receptor CCR3. Browse Assay Genie's current range of Eotaxin-2 research reagents below, or read on for the biology behind the target.
Eotaxin-2 is a chemotactic cytokine that directs the movement of immune cells. It is chemotactic for resting T-lymphocytes and eosinophils, has lower chemotactic activity for neutrophils, and is inactive towards monocytes and activated lymphocytes. It binds to the receptor CCR3. The protein is also a strong suppressor of colony formation by a multipotential haematopoietic progenitor cell line, and it has antimicrobial activity, with an antibacterial effect reported against S. pneumoniae, S. aureus, non-typeable H. influenzae and P. aeruginosa.
The CCL24 gene belongs to the small cytokine CC gene subfamily, and the protein belongs to the intercrine beta (chemokine CC) family. CC chemokines are characterised by two adjacent cysteines. Cytokines of this kind are secreted proteins involved in immunoregulatory and inflammatory processes, and Eotaxin-2 is classed by HGNC in the eotaxins gene group. The mouse ortholog is Ccl24.
The name Eotaxin-2 reflects its activity on eosinophils. The same gene has also been called MPIF-2 (MPIF2), Ckb-6 and SCYA24, and the HGNC previous names are small inducible cytokine subfamily A (Cys-Cys), member 24 and chemokine (C-C motif) ligand 24. Researchers studying Eotaxin-2 often use an Eotaxin-2 antibody or Eotaxin-2 ELISA kit to follow this chemokine in work on inflammation and immune cell recruitment.
Eotaxin-2 is chemotactic for eosinophils and signals through CCR3, making it a focus for studies of eosinophil recruitment.
Eotaxin-2 attracts resting T-lymphocytes but not activated lymphocytes, which makes it useful for studying selective lymphocyte migration.
As a secreted CC chemokine, Eotaxin-2 takes part in immunoregulatory and inflammatory processes.
Eotaxin-2 suppresses colony formation by a haematopoietic progenitor cell line and shows antibacterial activity against several pathogens.
Eotaxin-2 is a secreted chemokine that attracts resting T-lymphocytes and eosinophils, with lower activity on neutrophils and none on monocytes or activated lymphocytes. It binds CCR3, suppresses colony formation by a haematopoietic progenitor cell line, and has antibacterial activity.
The CCL24 gene product is also called MPIF-2, MPIF2, Ckb-6 and SCYA24. Older HGNC names are small inducible cytokine subfamily A (Cys-Cys), member 24 and chemokine (C-C motif) ligand 24. UniProt lists the protein as C-C motif chemokine 24.
A mouse ortholog, Ccl24, exists for the human CCL24 gene. Human Eotaxin-2 is a member of the CC chemokine family and the eotaxin gene group. Check the datasheet of any product for its validated reactivity.
