Sandwich or competitive ELISA?
A sandwich ELISA kit captures the target between two antibodies, so signal rises with concentration. It is the most sensitive choice for proteins such as IL-6, TNF-alpha and other cytokines. A competitive ELISA kit suits targets too small to bind two antibodies, such as cortisol, dopamine and other hormones or small molecules; here the signal falls as concentration rises.
